Unnamed sources have been talking, last week to CNET and today to the Wall Street Journal, both sources disclosing Google's supposed intent to introduce its very own music store. This would initially be a web store where you can stream or download music, with a search twist. Allegedly subsequent plans would, yeah you guessed it Android integration in 2011, which is something that Google demoed at its I/O conference last month. Looks like were in for some more Google V Apple competition.

A peak at Intel and Nokia's MeeGo Tablet OS

Anroid and iOS4 are the top two tablet contenders at the moment, but MeeGo a combination of Intel's Moblin and Nokia's Maemo OSes could be a strong third entrant. Take a peak at this pre-alpha release on youtube listed above. It looks like MeeGo features Intel's AppUp store, however its not clear if MeeGo will allow you to download and install third party aps.
The video preview show MeeGo struting some cool features such as a dockable task bar, HD video capabilities, integrated social networking, five simultaneous points of input. But the tablet market will be a tough one with four major competitors Microsoft, Android, Apple, MeeGo, and some other potential contenders Ubuntu, JooJoo, etc etc.

Super AMOLED vs AMOLED vs LCD, Whats the difference in sunlight?

AMOLED's Achilles' heel is readability in direct sunlight. Samsung now is manufacturing and shipping out panels with its new Super AMOLED technology to fix that. Techblog took the display to task by pitting the Samsung Galaxy S (4-inch, 480-by-800 pixel Super AMOLED) against the HTC Desire (3.7-inch 480-by-800 pixel AMOLED) and Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 (4-inch, 480-by-854 pixel TFT LCD). It's relatively clear that the Ericsson's LCD has the edge, but the Super AMOLED certainly shows improvement over the AMOLED. I wonder when we will see a AMOLED tablet?

On June 14th, we reported that Ubuntu was working on a tablet OS. According to Engadget today, the Ubunutu Light OS will not work it's way into tablets.

Snazzy, but not tablet-ready!

Ubuntu Light will be worked into a slew of devices, including Netbooks. While Canonical states that there are no short-term plans to bring it to tablets, we believe that it's only a matter of time before it happens.

We've seen many low quality iPad Clones that run outdated Android 1.6, but here we have the Orphan iPed - M16 one of the first iPad clones running Android 2.1. The Orphan iPed - M16 hardware-wise is potentially on-par with the Apple iPad. The iPed M16 has the ARM Cortex A8 processor, which is nearly identical to the Apple A4 processor. It sports the same amount of ram, and a similar screen size. However the Orphan iPed - M16 screen size is noticeably taller and skinnier missing 168 pixels in width the iPad screen has. The true question is how "high quality" the touch screen actually is, if its capacitive touch screen we might have a hit selling iPad clone. As far as initial options you can either order the tablet with Android 2.1 or Windows CE, we sure hope you choose Android 2.1.

The Orphan iPed M16 can be had for $289.99 and will be available for shipping June 29. However pricedinchina has them available for pre-order now!

As a side note the EKEN M005 could possibly be the same exact tablet just rebranded (seems unlikely based on pictures), but its a possibility as EKEN and Orphan have been rebranding all of the same hardware for their Android tablets thus far.

Specifications:
Built in Stereo Speakers
CPU Speed: 1 GHz
CPU Type: ARM Cortex A8
Operating System: Android 2.1
Screen Size: 10.2 inch
Memory: 256MB DDR2 RAM
Onboard ROM: Built-in 1GB NandFlash
Touch Screen: High Quality Touch Screen
Screen: Native Screen Resolution 1024 x 600
Mini-USB Port Host or Slave
Ethernet RJ45 Port
WiFi B/G
In-Built Web Camera
Optional Keyboard / 3G module / BlueTooth

Prototype Demo:

Android Release Gingerbread Will Focus on User Experience

Google has been tenaciously upgrading and releasing new iterations of it's Android OS since 2008. While in recent news they did confirm that they would most likely slow down to one release a year development cycles, we found out from TechCrunch that this next release (possibly 2.3?) dubbed GingerBread will be focusing on overhauling the user experience. The plan by the Android development team is to create a user experience that won't beg for a Sense UI, Motoblur, Ninjablur, etc interfaces layered over the default Android UI. While the TechCrunch article dosen't directly specify that this update will effect tablets it will most likely also be that first major update to help improve Android Tablet User interfaces and experiences as well.

The Samsung Galaxy Tape Android Tablet, as seen in this photo and spec leak As you will see in the video the Galaxy Tape has a different set of Android-friendly "buttons," and as Engadget points out it appears to be void of Samsung's TouchWiz UI Skin. This Android Tablet carrys the P1000 model number, has the 7-inch super AMOLED screen. Also while it only opens one photo gallery application you will notice solid performance. In this short clip you may also notice very good touch screen accuracy portraying that it most likely has a capacitive touch screen(in many lesser resistive tablet videos you see the person doing the demo, redo the same task over and over because the touchscreen low quality).

Amazon rolled out the 2.5 Kindle update publicly, after rigorous testing. It is available for manual update currently, however Kindle's with wireless activated will automatically update in the days/weeks to come.

In 2.5 you will now be able to organize books within folders(or collections), share favorite passages via Twitter and Facebook, you can zoom and pan within PDF's, and even lock your Kindle with a password. Perhaps the best part is that you get the benefit of some additional large font sizes and improved sharpness.

See here for manual download and install instructions.

Symbaloo and MyFav.es go great on Tablet Homepages

If your internet browsing is anything like mine, you probably travel to several websites on a daily basis (many of those multiple times a day). Little did I know how much I'm typing in the domains of the same sites I visit over, and over. Well favorite launch pages like Myfav.es and Symbaloo.com aim to help you solve this very problem. Myfav.es as seen above has a very clean and fluffy interface, that I actually prefer over symbvaloo seen below (all personal preferences). Another major benefit to note of these favorite launch pages is they save you even more time on Tablet devices(since typing is generally slower on tablets)! Its one central homepage to jump to all the sites your frequently read on your tablet. Why type when you don't have to?!

Posted Image

However Symbaloo gives you a huge amount of icon space on the screen, so if you have many many sites your frequent, this might be the better choice for you. Both are great tools, Enjoy!

Wired has a brief little review of the Archos 7 Tablet. The article leads as follows, "New Archos Tablet Is a Kid's Toy, Not Suitable for Adults." As you can imagine what fallowed was yet another disappointing tablet. The Archos 7 Tablet is allegedly very stripped down, has little extra functionality other than being a media player. As a new device it runs Android 1.5? Really Archos? You should know better than that! Not to mention it also includes a lovely(sarcasm) resistive touchscreen, that according to wired promotes a absolutely horrible typing experience. On the upside it is only $ 200.00 USD, but in the coming months we should be seeing some much more worthy tablets.

Here we see an unsatisfied customer of AT&T's 3G (big surprise right?) Well he decided to take a MiFi box, tear out the internals and completed a relatively easy mod to merge it into his iPad. His iPad as well as his other devices now can enjoy Verizon's MiFi Data service.

*Update* if your feeling adverterous and want to see this mod but done on a Macbook Air head on over to listedfirst

So lets run a scenario, you need to sneak an iPad into South Africa, without notifying your wife. What do you do? Well it's obvious you have some friends in a London Chocolate Shop coat your iPad in chocolate, then you ship it 6000 miles, well maybe you wouldn't do that but Stefan Magdalinski sure did.

if you want to see some un(chocolate) boxing pictures head on over to aheadrobot.com
